The Nightcap was held in the Navy Pier Grand Ballroom as the after party to the main Grand Chef Gala. The night included bites, desserts and drinks from some of Chicago's top chefs and mixologists who do their thing at some of Chicago's best restaurants.
I don't think I have been in the ballroom before the evening. After the pre-party everyone headed in to the upper level around the ballroom. As you can see in the photo below there were still some partiers who danced the night away in the main ballroom.
Kevin and I weren't expecting the amount of heavier savory bites so we ended up sticking to the light desserts. From what people were saying and the looks of satisfaction as they enjoyed the savory bites they were definitely top notch.
The drink concoctions were all over the place as well! The mixologists definitely out did themselves. My favorite was by far the one from Three Dots and a Dash. I loved the orchid with it, that just made me feel so fancy to have a fancy flower in my drink.
We loved every single dessert but the little ice cream bar was my favorite. The yellow dots were a little spicey, the foam a bit limy and there was a little bit of salt. I really liked it with the foam the best. I could have sworn I got a photo of what restaurant it was from but I didn't ahhh!!! Clearly I need to do some heavy internet stalking and find out.
I had a total fangirl moment too! If you watch Top Chef you'd definitely recognize Katsuji Tanabe. Originally from Season 12 he's been rocking it out this year on Season 15 Veterans v. Rookies. I was just minding my own business getting a fabulous mixed cocktail, I turn and there he was! He was awesome and took a photo with me. When we were heading out he totally stopped and chatted with me for a little bit too! You know how he's sassy on the show ... yeah he's sassy in real life too. Totally made my night!!!
Close second in my my book and by far the most fun dessert to enjoy was the liquid funfetti cupcake from the LondonHouse Chicago's Claire Crenshaw. There was a large vat of sprinkles just waiting to top the creamy treat and it took all my self control not to stick my hands in. As you can see Kevin had a ball with that treat as well.
It was a a wonderful evening! We both had a great time and it was awesome to see so many people there to support a foundation that is doing some amazing work. Next year we'll have to save up and go for the full blown event!
