One thing that I've become very good at in my adult life is moving and packing to move. Not only have I moved several times in my personal life I’ve also had to move historic collections twice in my career, which are pretty unique and massive undertakings let me tell you!

Through these experiences I have picked up several tips and tricks that are my go to for making moves much easier. Here are my top 5 tips to make your move go much smoother.

Make a list and organize yourself

When I was moving in and out of the dorm at Valpo things were pretty simple. I had the basics and it all fit into my parents’ van. Since then as I’ve gone through life, I’ve acquired more things and life has become more complicated.

To keep this full life uncomplicated during a move it’s best to make a list. Really make several if you need them. Keeping yourself as organized as you can during a move will help not only with the stress beforehand but also the stress after the move.

Use a reputable moving company

Bribing friends to move you with pizza and beer just won’t cut it. Really not hiring professional movers won’t cut it anymore. When you move save up and budget to hire good movers like JC Movers & Lumper Service Inc . They are reputable labor movers in Chicago.

One of the things I love about  JC Movers & Lumper Service Inc  if you need a company to do all the things for your move they’re your company or if you need a company to help you with just the packing they are there to help with that too.

Be sure to have plenty of good packing materials

Packing materials can really make or break a move, literally! One thing I’ve realized these days is there are tons of different ways to get free materials too. In the past everyone would always recommend going to grocery stores and ask for their materials. Now we have great places like Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace where you can usually find free materials.

I always think it’s better to have more and not need it then have to scramble to find materials. When I know we’re going to be moving I start pulling together materials a couple months ahead of time. If space allows for it this is definitely the best way to go.  It also gives  you the opportunity to start packing items you know you won’t be using so you’re not running around last minute.

Pack week after box(es) or bag(s)

One of the most frustrating parts of moving is that sometimes you’re not able to pack and get settled right away. Even if you’re able to start unpacking sometimes you aren’t able to find everything. So what I’ve done in both my personal and professional moves is made sure to pack a box or bag of items that you will need in the first week of living ins a new place.

This should be stuff like all your toiletries, a weeks worth of clothing, enough plates, cups and utensils to get you through a few days. Whatever are the necessities for a week pack those in specially marked boxes.

Label all the things

This is one tip I learned the hard way through my last work move. Unfortunately the archive collection had to go into a temporary set up for almost two months! During that time I was still expected to answer requests in a somewhat timely manner.

I learned pretty quickly that while we labelled most things pretty well we could have done much better. Not having everything labelled really made things difficult for that month and a half.

Whether it’s a color labelling system or making sure each box has the room or what’s in it on the outside be sure to label everything.

There you have it. My 5 go to tips for making your move as simple and smooth as it can be! Do you have any tricks you use to keep moving stress free? Thank you again to MoversBoost. MoversBoost provides local seo for moving companies, website design, hosting, and ads management.
